Jom Sembang BIM! Practise, Connect and Make Friends Through Malaysian Sign Language
JUPEBIM invites you to Jom Sembang BIM, a relaxed social gathering for everyone who wants to communicate in Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM), Malaysian Sign Language. Whether you’re fluent in BIM or just learning your first signs, this is a welcoming space to practise, connect and build friendships with the Deaf community.
“Sembang” means “chat” in Malay, and that’s exactly what this gathering is about. There’s no classroom and no pressure, just friendly conversation in sign language over coffee.
Who Should Join?
Everyone is welcome, including:
- Deaf community members who want to meet new friends and share their language and culture.
- BIM students looking to practise outside the classroom.
- BIM interpreters who want to stay connected with the Deaf community and keep their skills sharp.

Jom Sembang BIM takes place at the Starbucks Signing Store in Bangsar Village II, Kuala Lumpur. The store is staffed by Deaf partners and is the first Starbucks Signing Store in the world. Orders are placed in sign language or in writing, which makes it a natural meeting point for a BIM gathering where sign language comes first.
