JUPEBIM (Interpreters and Translators Association for Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Deaf Community) was founded and led by Lucy Lim (one of the pioneer Interpreters in Malaysia) together with seven Community Interpreters (Deaf and Hearing) with a burning desire to establish an Interpreting society in Malaysia.
The association was officially registered on 13 October 2020 and began operating in April 2021 when the Covid-19 pandemic situation eased. With a strong commitment, JUPEBIM aspires to provide professional interpreting and translation services in Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM), also known as Malaysian Sign Language, which is used amongst the Deaf community in Malaysia.To date, JUPEBIM has 48 registered members and all meetings and discussions were carried out via Zoom online.
To serve as the bridge for the Hearing and Deaf communities.
To bring quality upskilling training programs to BIM Interpreters in Malaysia for the benefit of the Malaysian Deaf Community.
